Naimatullah Khan (late) is not an anonymous name for the residents of Karachi. He is known as the best counselor in the history of the city of lights. His mega projects for the betterment of Karachi are still yearned for. In his era, Karachi was seen in its best phase and kicked-started its journey for a glorious future. It’s astonishing to note that he did not belong to a privileged family, rather he was a self -made man who started his journey from scratch. His struggling story is an inspiration to many, who are going through hard times and are looking for silver lines in their lives. Naimatullah Khan, a double MA, LLB degree holder, used to work day and night as a stenographer to make both ends meet. He had no strong background to support him yet he turned out to be the most respected Mayor of Karachi, from the platform of Jamaat-e- Islami. The fact that he turned the Karachi budget from 6 million to 43 million, without a single spot of corruption up his sleeve should be underlined. Undoubtedly,he was a rare diamond in the political history of Pakistan.
نعمت اللہ خان اہل کراچی کے لیے کوئی نیا نام نہیں. کراچی کے بہترین مئیر کے طور پہ نعمت اللہ خان کا نام سر فہرست ہے. ان کے میگا پروجیکٹس کراچی کو روشنیوں کا شہر بنا گئے اور آج بھی ان کی یادیں اہلیان کراچی کے دلوں میں تازہ ہیں. ان کے دور حکومت میں کراچی اپنا بہترین دور جی رہا تھا اور ترقیوں کی منازل کی جانب گامزن تھا. قابلِ ذکر بات تو یہ ہے کہ نعمت اللہ خان صاحب کا تعلق کسی متمول گھرانے سے نہ تھا بلکہ ان کی زندگی ہمیشہ محنت و مشقتوں کو سہتے گزری. ان کی فرش سے عرش تک پہنچنے کی کہانی آج بھی لوگوں کے حوصلوں کو بلند کرنے کا ذریعہ ہے. یہاں یہ بھی واضح ہوجائے کہ سیاسی طور پہ کامیابی حاصل کرنے کے باوجود ان کا طریقہ زندگی تکلفات سے پاک رہا اور قناعت ہی ان کا لباس رہی. ماسٹرز اور ایل ایل بی کی ڈگری اٹھائے، دن رات محنت مزدوری کرنے والا یہ شخص جماعت اسلامی کے پلیٹ فارم سے مئیر منتخب ہوگیا اور پھر کراچی نے اپنی تقدیر بدلتے دیکھی. کرپشن سے پاک دور حکومت جس کا اعتراف خود مخالفین نے کیا، آج بھی ایک بے نظیر مثال ہے. حقیقتاً، نعمت اللہ خان پاکستان کی سیاست کا ایک انمول ہیرا تھے.
